How to help your employees LOVE Mondays

Your employees are the beating heart of your business; they’re the reason for your continued success, and unique innovations. It’s important to give back to your colleagues by creating an enjoyable, supportive workplace – one that promotes achievement, development, and a healthy work-life balance. Here’s how you can optimise your workforce strategy to help your employees love Mondays:

Love Mondays: How to make employees enjoy coming to work

The strength of your workplace has a huge effect on your employees’ performance, as well as your ability to attract, hire, and retain sought-after talent.

Here are five steps you can take to make your workplace more enjoyable

#1 – Build an Employee Value Proposition (EVP) that truly resonates

Your Employee Value Proposition (EVP) is the collection of values and incentives given to your colleagues in return for their hard work. This includes personal benefits such as healthcare packages, and company-wide incentives such as staff socials and flexible working initiatives.

It’s important to ensure that your EVP truly resonates with your employees’ unique expectations. Unwanted benefits don’t serve any purpose to your workforce – they’re just a drain on your company’s money and resources.

Equally, failing to provide sought-after benefits may compromise your ability to retain employees. Simply put, if your colleagues don’t feel suitably rewarded for their efforts, they will start to look for opportunities elsewhere.

Survey your employees on a regular basis to find out which company benefits matter most/least to them. Is there anything they feel is missing from your current benefits package? This ensures you can remain on top of employees’ shifting expectations, and adapt your EVP to meet their needs.

#2 – Strengthen your employer brand, and define its values

Your employer brand is the first thing candidates will see before applying to your vacancies. This can be the deciding factor on your reputation in the job market; it’s what makes your business an ‘employer of choice’ for top talent.

If your employer brand accumulates a negative reputation amongst employees and candidates, you’ll find it difficult to build a diversely talented, committed workforce.

Ensure your brand’s values align with those of your employees and ideal candidates. Make sure your company culture reflects their expectations, and that your HR policy highlights the issues most important to them.

For example, failing to take action to make your business more inclusive could harm your employer brand. It’s therefore crucial to ensure policies such as your diversity pledge are promoted in brand communications – such as your job ads, careers site, and online profiles.

#3 – Make your workplace a centre for personal development

It’s time to normalise ‘learning at work’. The purpose of your workplace shouldn’t just be to drive instant results – it should be a place for employees to learn, develop, and progress in their careers.

This benefits both you and your colleagues, helping your business to nurture a diversely-skilled workforce, while supporting your employees’ personal development.

Make sure to offer learning and development opportunities to all of your employees. Sit down with your colleagues regularly to identify areas in which they would like to expand their knowledge and skills. This may take the form of in-house, peer-to-peer learning, or involve the use of external courses and training providers.

#4 – Ignite a ‘tribe culture’ within your workforce

Part of helping your employees to love Mondays is building a team in which they feel comfortable, involved, and supported. Unify your workforce around your company’s core values – maintain communications between different departments, especially on a social level.

Camaraderie is important to any workforce, but becomes even more crucial when leading a large team of employees. Hold business-wide meetings on a regular basis to bring a sense of community into your workforce, and keep staff in the loop.

Staff socials are a great way to develop workplace relationships, and contribute to your company’s tribe culture. Make these an integral part of your workplace strategy; you can even use fun team-building events to develop connections throughout your workforce.

#5 – Listen to their feedback, and take action

Make your employees feel listened to; ask for their feedback on a regular basis – whether this relates to your HR policy, management strategy, or working environment.

Workforce surveys are a powerful tool for gaining insights as to your colleagues’ true opinions. Poll your employees regularly, and act on their feedback to build a workplace that truly meets their expectations.

It’s impossible to know what’s best for your employees without gaining their own input. Help your employees love Mondays again – show them that their opinions matter, and make a real difference!
