How to recruit new employees easily – 6 steps

Recruitment is a crucial part of expanding your company. As your business grows, you need to attract like-minded talent to facilitate its future success. Here’s how to recruit the best new employees in six simple steps:

How to recruit new employees easily:

Hiring can be a challenge – but it can be made a lot easier! Here are six simple steps for recruiting new employees quickly and effectively:

#1 – Identify your vacancy & ideal candidate

Tangible vs Intangible employee benefits

Identify your company’s needs; what is the vacancy in question, and what are its requirements? This is the first step of the recruitment process, and serves as a foundation for the rest of your hiring strategy.

What does your ideal candidate look like? What are their skills, qualifications, and personal/professional values? Picturing your best-case applicant will help you tailor your advertising and selection strategies around them.

#2 – Advertise your vacancy effectively

Job Adverts - increase results

Strong advertising strategy is what enables you to attract high-quality applications. Focus your job ads on your ideal candidate; what are they looking for in their future employer?

Tailor the language in your job posts to attract the most compatible candidates. Focus on your company’s values, the interpersonal requirements of the role, and any learning & development opportunities.

A huge 48% of job-seekers* won’t apply for a role if the expected salary is not listed in the advertisement. Include as much detail as possible to make vacancies more attractive to your ideal candidates.

#3 – Screen your applications to establish a shortlist

What to look for in a candidate CV

Once you have received a sufficient number of applications, work to establish a shortlist of the most compatible applicants. Create candidate profiles to highlight their unique skills and values; this will make it easier to gauge their suitability.

Talos ATS automatically filters applicant data to create individual profiles – making the screening process easier for your HR team. The system highlights key skills and keywords in applications to help you narrow down your strongest candidates.

Be sure to notify all of your applicants of your decisions at this stage. Update both successful and unsuccessful candidates on the progress of their applications. This helps to maintain your employer brand reputation and boost engagement.

#4 – Arrange interviews with your strongest candidates

Once you have shortlisted your strongest candidates, it’s time to start interviewing. Send out a list of available interview slots to give candidates more freedom over when they attend.

Prepare interview questions in advance; what do you need to ask to effectively judge candidates’ suitability? This allows you to build in-depth interviewee profiles to aid in the selection process.

Talos lets candidates book interviews at a time that suits both you and them, decreasing the risk of application abandonment. The platform also supports live video interviewing – giving you and your candidates flexibility over when/how sessions are carried out. Virtual interviews can also be recorded for more in-depth screening and analysis.

#5 – Make a positive hiring decision

3 viral recruitment trends you need to know about

Use the data/recordings obtained in interview sessions to inform a positive hiring decision. Assess the strengths, weaknesses, and compatibility of each candidate. Compare and contrast these to identify which applicant best meets the demands of the role.

Be sure to include multiple decision-makers at the selection stage to reduce the risk of individual bias. This promotes diversity & inclusion (D&I) in your hiring process, while ensuring recruitment decisions are democratic, and data-driven.

Notify your successful applicant(s), and make sure they’re still available to take on the role. It’s wise to wait for their response before contacting unsuccessful applicants, as you may need to keep a second choice in mind. Make sure to be courteous with unsuccessful candidates; they may prove to be valuable applicants for future opportunities.

#6 – Onboard your new employee(s)

easy ways to recruit

Congratulations! You’ve brought a strong new employee to your business. Now it’s time to get them off to a great start in their new role.

Make sure new recruits have all the necessary information to start their first day with confidence. Send over a ‘welcome guide’ containing employer brand information, and an itinerary for their first day/week.

It’s a good idea to set up any equipment/software before your new employee’s first day. Create any accounts/logins they may need beforehand; this will ensure they get off to a strong start with your business.

Make a first day, week, and month training plan to bring new employees up to speed with their roles. Hold regular reviews to address any concerns/challenges they may have; this is key to promoting new starter retention!
