Commissioned as a monument to the 'Iron Duke', Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, following his death in 1852, and opened by Queen Victoria in 1859, Wellington College has a rich and proud heritage. Granted a Royal Charter by Victoria in 1856, the college has remained on its beautiful and extensive site in Berkshire since its foundation. Opening its sixth form to girls in 1975, Wellington became fully co-educational in 2006 and is now home to over 1100 pupils.
